Restaurant Guru 2019 Best romantic restaurantCafe Allegre
We were honored to be featured in this very popular Blog by a great "food influencer" - "Miss Marzipan"! She dined at Cafe Allegre and had met my father, Chef Silvio, and the thought of our food lingered on in her mind when she returned home to Sweden. She shared one of my father's recipes with a nice story about us too with all of her followers. Thank you Marisa for a lovely worldwide tribute to him - to us!

For today's Destination Location, we paid a visit to Cafe Allegre; it's been a staple of downtown Madison for nearly 21 years.
"I think people like coming to the shoreline, especially in the spring, summer and fall," said chef and owner Ilario Suppa. "It's just a nice place, a happy place.
That's what Cafe allegre actually means: happy." His late father and original owner of Cafe Allegre, Chef Silvio, named the restaurant to set the tone as a happy place. Suppa had been cooking with his father since he was a kid.
"I started when I was about 14-years-old, side by side with him since I was a kid and I learned everything," said Suppa. "He taught me everything he knows."
And now his own kids have changed the way he cooks. His daughter follows a vegetarian diet and all three of his children have food allergies. Catering to dietary restrictions have changed the way he cooks at home and runs his restaurant.
"It's made me so much more aware of food allergies and sensitivities, and I think it's made me a better chef and a better host."
